Production of Bioactive Substances Using Fungal Production Systems

Fungal production systems are characterized by their robustness, a high level of secretion and their genetic accessibility. This makes fungal production systems ideal candidates for the target-oriented production of proteins, platform chemicals and bio-polymers.

After the production, processing and purification of bioactive substances using appropriate fungal fermentation protocols and downstream processes, the products are analyzed for their potential applications in the pharmaceutical or food industry. Targeted products include both proteins and secondary metabolites. Furthermore, synthetic biology tools for Aspergillus niger are developed and established, aiming at the controlled synthesis of bioactive substances in fungal host strains.
